1408
So many people told me that it wasn’t too bad and that I would like it. And silly, me, I finally gave in and rented 1408.
Now let me preface this by saying that I do NOT watch horror movies. I’m the world’s biggest wimp and even jump at the smallest surprises in non horror flicks. In fact, the last horror movie I willingly watched was Pet Cemetery in college with a boyfriend. And you can bet that I spent the night at his apartment that night. After all, I had warned him that I sucked at watching horror movies, so the poor guy had to deal with me jumping at shadows all night and my freaky nightmares.
So, I guess I’m not too bright because fast forward twenty years and I let my son convince me that we could watch it together and I would be fine. After all, he watches horror flicks all the time and loves them.
Uh huh. Right.
As soon as John Cuzack checks into 1408, every muscle in my body tensed up so tight I thought they might snap, and I jumped at every small thing. Then my stomach started roiling, and I was lightheaded and very nearly sick to my stomach.
Yup–I’m back here again.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Now that it’s done, I can say objectively that it was a good movie. I love John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.
Does that mean I will ever watch it again, now that I know what happens?
No way in hell.
Watching these things physically makes me sick. I just get too sucked in. I think part of what enables me to write stories and live inside my mind for long stretches, also makes me very susceptible to getting sucked into movies, stories and etc. Going in, they ask you to suspend disbelief, and I’m a wide-open audience in that respect.
Maybe I’ll be smart and not get talked into this for another twenty years… Cross your fingers for me, will ya?
Anyone else have a problem with these, or am I an island?

I loved that movie and I hate horror movies. It has an ending that twists your mind–did, didn’t he??????
After posting that pic of me in your newsletter, you deserve to be scared.

Aaaauuugghhh! That’s the reaction I got the last time I deliberately watched a slasher film, as they are so appropriately named. It was the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and even at the drive-in with 2 friends and my boyfriend, my heart was racing so fast I thought I would have a heart attack at age nineteen! I also refuse to watch Steven king films for the same reason. No character is sacred to him so I don’t trust him.
However, that said, when offered the opportunity to watch 1408 during a sleepover at my sister’s house, I drank a bit too much wine and so remember that it was a really cool movie, but the ending is still a bit fuzzy… LOL!

Don’t like them…don’t watch them. Ever. I’m a horror virgin. Except for the original Scream.

Chey – you looked great in those pictures
But then you always look great *bitch* LOL!
Lily – My son even made me watch the alternate endings on the DVD, which weren’t too bad, actually – so I remember all three endings very well…LOL!
Thanks for stopping by, Brit. I know what you mean, I’ve watched the Spoofs on horror films and those were funny, but I’m just not a horror girl.

Sorry Kiddo – I loves me some horror flicks. I have to admit that every now and then I’ll watch when then I’ll hesitate to stick my foot out from under the covers.

See, now I hear that from a lot of friends, JC. Isabella Clayton LOVES horror and that’s what she writes, too. But I guess I just don’t like to be scared.
I do love rollercoasters and that type of thing, but I just can’t do horror!

I won’t touch that movie with a ten foot pole. You’re talking about someone who hid from the wicked witch of the west and spent most of my time behind our family room couch. I also went to a slasher movie in high school adn spent the entire movie with a coat over my head.(in August no less). So Tina, you’re not a whimp. Call me next time you watch a romantic comedy and leave the otehrs for someone who’s not a fraidy cat.

I’m bad when it comes to horror movies. I love monster movies, but not horror films. Like you, I get WAY too invested in films. I cried for weeks after Gladiator and my dh had to walk me out of the theater during King Kong because I was making such a scene. It was so bad.
